The Scarlet Fever Bug... and Thankful for Services Rendered!

All three of the kids got sick at the same time.So we hauled in Sadie on saturday morning to find out what was wrong and we were told she had strep. After finding that out, we hauled in the older two and they had it also...so all three kids were put on Amoxacillian(?) and it was a 10 day does. Come Monday evening, Sadie's rash had not gotten any better. At dinnertime, I excused myself to go to the bathroom, and came back to find Sadie standing in front of the table screaming, "Mommy, I can't walk, I can't walk," those who know me know I am a paranoid mom and so I called Josh who was out of town working. We decided to take her into the ER. I couldn't reach any of my wonderful church friends, since it was Monday night. I finally was able to get my Bishop on his cellphone and they came and gave Sadie a blessing. By now it was almost 8:00, Maggie and Logan were asleep and Sadie would not let me put her down. He feet were swollen and she could not bend her knees. I had failed to remember that my brother, Ryan was living closer now, and so I made a phone call and he met me at the hospital while the Bishop's wife sat with me kids and her daughter drove me to the ER. I had to hold Sadie she would not allow me to put her in her seat.

Once we arrived we didn't even have to wait, they rushed us in, in my time of mom and ER visits (8 total) I have learned that kids get rushed...or mine always have anyways. So the doctor was not certain what was wrong with Sadie he said it was viral and she didn't have a fever, however, he wouldn't listen to me when I told him I had given her Motrin 2 hours prior...I was hoping it would reduce the swelling and pain. So, he put her on Pediapred (predizone a steriod) to reduce the swelling and get her over the top. Needless to say, after a very long evening, I learned that sometimes doctors do not have the answers either.
My personal feelings, I found out three days later the Scarlet Fever is going around the community and especially at Maggie's school. Their have been several cases of it here. I have done some research and truly feel this was what Sadie had. Her temp. is normal at 97.1 so for her to have a 101.8 which is what it was, that is really about 103. Crazy I know...but today I am especially thankful for the power of the priesthood, medicines, and willingness of others to serve.
